What is the GPU Video Super Resolution feature and how do I enable it in CyberLink PowerDVD 23/365?

CyberLink PowerDVD 23 (Ultra/Pro edition or the 365 subscription version) now supports enabling the GPU Video Super Resolution feature on a compatible Intel and NVIDIA¹ GPU to upscale² video resolution during the playback.

The GPU Super Resolution feature utilizes your GPU and its AI graphic processing feature to enhance the display of pixels on each video frame when a video is playing, and outputs the up-scaled result on the screen.

Here are the compatible Intel and NVIDIA GPU models and the capabilities for your reference:

  NVIDIA RTX 2000 series with the latest driver (or above)

  1080p to 4K: Intel Arc series, Iris Xe Max (96EU) with 12th Gen CPU, or above
  720p to 1080p: Intel Iris Plus (64EU) with 10th Gen CPU, Iris Xe Max (80EU) with 11th Gen CPU, or above.
  480p to 1080p: Intel Iris Plus (32EU) with 10th Gen CPU, or above

To use the GPU Super Resolution, please ensure your GPU supports the Super Resolution feature on the hardware side in advance, then enable the feature in PowerDVD with the following steps:

1. Start a video⁵ playback first.
2. Open PowerDVD's Player Settings.
3. Click on the Video, Audio, Subtitles tab, and then click the Video Enhancements.
4. Click on the Advanced tab and then select the GPU Video Resolution option⁶.

Note: 

1. The feature is not supported on AMD GPU and APU currently.
2. The resolution up-scaled result is accustomed to your GPU hardware and its AI processing. The Super Resolution is not 100% precision-based technology and cannot achieve an unlimited video quality enhancement. The quality of the video playback is still mainly dependent on how your video is produced (recorded) originally.
3. Before you can use this feature in PowerDVD, you'll need to enable the Super resolution option under RTX video enhancement in the NVIDIA Control Panel.
4. The maximum up-scaled resolution is 4K (3,840 x 2,160) and it is limited by your GPU's capability, not by the player software (CyberLink PowerDVD).
5. This feature is not supported for Blu-ray/DVD video disc (including disk image file (ISO), disc folder) playback.
6. The option will not be select-able if your GPU hardware does not support the feature or not support the upscaling on the video resolution PowerDVD plays.
