When I capture a track from an audio CD, I can hear the music. But I hear nothing when playing the captured audio. What happened?

Navigate to the Volume Control by following these steps:

Start=>Programs=>Accessories=>Entertainment=>Volume Control

In the Volume Control window, please check that the system volume is not muted, and make sure that the volume is set at correct levels, for both the Master Volume, as well as the Wave volume.
