What can I do if CyberLink PowerDirector does not load/open projects created with an older version, a newer version, or PowerDirector Essential properly?
For projects created in a newer version of PowerDirector:
Per the current program design, the .pds video projects that are edited and saved in a newer version of PowerDirector are not compatible with previous PowerDirector versions (e.g., PowerDirector 2024 does not open projects created in PowerDirector 2025/365). If you want to edit projects created in an earlier version of PowerDirector using a newer version, you are advised to backup the .pds video project files before you open them to edit in the newer versions of PowerDirector.
For projects created in PowerDirector 365 Essential:
Per the current program design, video projects that created and edited in the free PowerDirector 365 Essential edition are not compatible with editing in the perpetual version of PowerDirector (e.g., PowerDirector 2025 Ultimate edition) because the features and design of PowerDirector 365 differs from and exceed those of the perpetual version. Therefore, it is expected and normal that video projects created in PowerDirector 365 Essential are not openable in the PowerDirector perpetual version.
If you want to continue editing the previously saved project, you may consider subscribing PowerDirector 365 accordingly. Or, you are advised to open a new video project to start the editing from scratch in the PowerDirector perpetual version you purchased.
For projects created in an older version of PowerDirector:
Most projects created with older PowerDirector versions can be opened in newer PowerDirector versions directly (e.g., PowerDirector 2025/365 can open projects created in PowerDirector 2024 normally). However, CyberLink keeps adding new features and adjusting the program interface in PowerDirector 365; some effects, templates, and features may be removed or replaced in newer versions. If your video projects were created with older versions of PowerDirector and included removed templates or features, those elements may not be editable or displayed correctly in the latest version of PowerDirector 365.
