Why do I get an error saying "Display cannot play the video content because your monitor does not support the playback of protected content", when playing back Blu-ray Disc movies?

Commercial Blu-ray discs have HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) natively to prevent unauthorized copying of high-definition content. To play Blu-ray discs that contain HDCP protection, your platform must meet the following display setup requirements before you can start the playback in CyberLink PowerDVD:

  • Use an HDCP-compliant digital connection cable (e.g., DVI-D, HDMI, or DisplayPort) to connect your PC to an HDCP-compatible monitor.
  • Do not use adapters, repeaters, or splitters between your PC and monitor.
  • Ensure the video is displayed on a single monitor only by avoiding the Duplicate/Mirror projection mode if there are multiple monitors connected to your PC.
  • Ensure your GPU can operate the HDCP content protection properly in the Windows OS by using the latest GPU driver version.

If your platform does not meet the HDCP requirements above, or HDCP content protection does not operate normally in the Windows OS, you might receive HDCP related errors, such as error code #0012, #0122, #0107, #0110, etc. during Blu-ray disc playback in PowerDVD.

To troubleshoot the HDCP related error, please check whether any of the following troubleshooting methods help resolve the condition:

  • Ensure you meet the aforementioned HDCP related setup.
  • Ensure your CyberLink PowerDVD is up-to-date.
    • You can check for software updates here.
  • Ensure your platform meets the minimum system requirements of PowerDVD.
  • Re-plug in the display cable from PC and monitor.
    • Unplug the display connection, turn off the monitor's power, and then wait for 5 to 10 minutes. Next, turn on the monitor's power and then plug the display cable back into the PC and monitor.
  • Replace the display cable if you have an extra one that does not require an additional purchase to check if the condition is limited to the specific cable.
  • Reinstall the graphics card driver1 to the latest version.
    • Uninstall the graphics driver from the Windows Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program page. Then, download the latest driver from the AMD / NVIDIA / Intel’s website.

If you still can’t resolve the problem, you can contact CyberLink Technical Support. Before contacting Technical Support, please prepare and include the information listed here. The more info you provide, the more we can understand your issue and better service will be provided.

Note:

  1. Ensure that the driver version is compatible with the current Windows OS version on your platform. If you have any problems installing graphics card drivers, please contact your computer manufacturer or the manufacturer of the display and sound cards for the latest drivers. Please also note that CyberLink is not able to offer the guarantee of normal playback functionality if the product is installed on a platform with the newer Windows version, but equipped with legacy GPU hardware and not compatible driver.
