What is the GPU Video Frame Interpolation feature and how do I enable it in CyberLink PowerDVD 24?
CyberLink PowerDVD 24 (Ultra/Pro edition or the 365 subscription version) now supports enabling the GPU Video Frame Interpolation feature on a compatible AMD1 and Intel GPU.
The GPU Video Frame Interpolation2 feature utilizes your GPU and its AI graphic processing technology to interpolate additional video frames to compensate for scenes with motion and enhance the video smoothness when a video3 is playing, outputting the frame-smoothened result on the screen.
Here are the compatible AMD and Intel GPU models and their capabilities for your reference:
- [AMD Video Frame Interpolation (AMD Fluid Motion)]
AMD Radeon RX 6000 series with the latest driver (or above) - [Intel Video Frame Interpolation]
Intel® Arc™ series graphics (integrated GPU) with Meteor Lake CPU (Core Ultra 5 or above), Intel® Arc™ A-Series Graphics (discrete GPU), or above
To use the frame interpolation feature, ensure your GPU supports the feature on the hardware side in advance, and then enable it in PowerDVD by following these steps:
- Start video playback.
- Open PowerDVD's Player Settings.
- Click on the Video, Audio, Subtitles tab, and then click the Video Enhancements.
- Click on the Advanced tab and then select the frame interpolation option4.
Note:
- The feature is not supported on NVIDIA GPUs currently.
- The frame interpolation result is accustomed to your GPU hardware and its AI processing. It is not 100% precision-based technology and cannot achieve an unlimited video frame smoothness enhancement. The quality of the video playback is still mainly dependent on how your video is produced (recorded) originally.
- The maximum resolution support for video is 4K (3,840 x 2,160). The frame rate of the original video cannot exceed 60 fps, and it is limited by your GPU's capability, not by the player software (CyberLink PowerDVD).
- The option will not be selectable or available if your GPU hardware does not support the feature or does not support frame interpolation on the video resolution PowerDVD plays. When the frame interpolation feature is enabled, the other TrueTheater video enhancement features cannot be enabled.
